Morocco is giving a real boost to young entrepreneurs. A new program launched by SMIT in partnership with the Ministry of Culture offers grants of up to 400,000 dirhams to help create cafés, restaurants and food concepts inside Morocco’s cultural and tourist landmarks.
The idea is straightforward: bring life, comfort and local flavor to places that already attract thousands of visitors. From medinas and kasbahs to museums and heritage squares, many historic spaces are beautiful but lack small, welcoming spots where people can sit, taste local products, and enjoy the atmosphere.
Support That Makes Projects Possible
The grant is paid in two stages, half at the start, and the rest when the project opens. This helps entrepreneurs cover design, equipment, decoration and operational costs while respecting the character of each heritage site.
The program encourages simple but creative ideas: a tea corner inside a historic building, a small café next to a museum, a panoramic rooftop with local dishes, or even a food truck offering Moroccan street food near a restored site.
A Win for Tourism and Local Communities
Morocco wants its cultural sites to feel more alive, not just visited quickly and forgotten. By adding cafés and restaurants, the country hopes to improve the tourist experience and create opportunities for locals at the same time.
The timing matches Morocco’s larger goals for tourism in the coming years, especially with big events such as the 2030 World Cup. More quality services around heritage sites means better experiences for visitors, and stronger communities around them.
