Morocco’s tourism industry is experiencing what officials and international sources describe as an exceptional year, marked by strong growth in visitor numbers and a growing share of emerging markets such as China. These developments reflect sustained momentum in the country’s broader strategy to position itself among the world’s leading travel destinations.
Doubling Chinese Tourist Arrivals
Morocco has attracted nearly twice as many tourists from China during the first eight months of the current year compared to the same period in 2024. The number of Chinese visitors reached approximately 200,000, illustrating rapid expansion in one of the world’s fastest-growing outbound travel markets.
The Director of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has set ambitious goals: Morocco aims to attract more than 300,000 Chinese visitors in 2025, 500,000 in 2026, and eventually one million Chinese tourists by 2030. This strategy ties into broader efforts to deepen engagement with key international markets and leverage enhanced air connectivity.
Strategic Growth and Economic Impact
This sustained growth in tourism aligns with Morocco’s Tourism Roadmap (2023–2026), a strategic framework emphasizing expanded air routes, enhanced hospitality infrastructure, and diversified promotional campaigns. The country has also expanded accommodation capacity and improved services to meet increasing international demand.
The rise in tourist numbers has broader economic implications. With tourism contributing significantly to employment, foreign exchange earnings, and regional development, Morocco’s performance positions it more competitively on the global stage. The tourism sector’s resurgence also supports preparations for upcoming global events, including its role as a co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Outlook
With strong year-to-date figures, increasing diversification of source markets, and strategic positioning within international travel networks, Morocco is on track to record one of its best tourism years ever. Continued growth from markets such as China combined with robust overall visitor totals suggests that the country’s long-term targets are within reach.
