Hassan II Stadium: Morocco’s 115,000-Seat Giant

Morocco is preparing to launch one of the most ambitious sports projects in Africa: the Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane near Casablanca. Planned to host 115,000 spectators, it will become the largest stadium on the continent and a central venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.

Project Timeline and Scale

The project is scheduled to begin with excavation works on August 15, 2024, while official construction will kick off on November 15, 2024. Completion is expected by November 2028, well ahead of the 2030 World Cup. The stadium itself will cover an area of more than 226,000 m² within a larger complex of 100 hectares.

Beyond a Stadium: A Sports and Cultural Complex

The Hassan II Stadium will not stand alone. It will be part of a massive sports and cultural hub that includes:

Training fields covering nearly 70,000 m²
A modern hotel of 15,000 m²
Two shopping centers of 10,000 m² and 12,000 m²
A large conference and exhibition center of 36,000 m²
An athletics track and a multi-sport hall
Dedicated gymnastics and swimming facilities
A leisure and play zone for families
Four parking areas with capacity for more than 10,000 cars

Connectivity and Accessibility

To ensure smooth access for fans and visitors, a new train station named “Benslimane Grand Stadium” will be developed alongside the project. Road infrastructure will also be upgraded to handle the high influx of traffic expected during international tournaments and cultural events.

Why Benslimane?

Benslimane was chosen as the location due to its strategic position between Casablanca and Rabat. This placement ensures accessibility while supporting the government’s vision of transforming the city into a new economic and urban hub, with the stadium as its centerpiece.
