A Strategic Reassessment of the Moroccan Traveler

Morocco has initiated a broad national study to reassess the role of domestic tourism within its overall strategy, as authorities seek to strengthen the sector’s internal foundations. The initiative is led by the Moroccan National Tourist Office and reflects a renewed focus on the Moroccan traveler.

As the current tourism roadmap approaches its conclusion, officials recognize that long-term stability cannot rely solely on international arrivals. The domestic market demonstrated its importance during the pandemic, when Moroccan travelers sustained hotel activity across the country. With international mobility restored, attention is now shifting toward unlocking untapped local potential.

The study, backed by a dedicated budget, will survey citizens across all regions and age groups. It combines focus groups, professional interviews, and large-scale field research to better understand travel behavior, spending capacity, accommodation preferences, and perceptions of national destinations compared to foreign alternatives.

Building a Strategic Tool for Sustainable Growth

Beyond gathering data, the objective is to design a decision-making framework capable of guiding regional investment, improving service quality, and reducing seasonality. By placing the Moroccan traveler at the center of its strategy, the country aims to reinforce tourism resilience and ensure balanced, sustainable development across destinations.
