Casablanca has always moved at its own pace.
As Morocco’s economic capital, the city does not wait for moments to justify its importance.
What is happening now is quieter, deeper and more structural.
Casablanca is rethinking how it welcomes, how it entertains and how it leaves an impression.
During a recent African tourism forum, the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Casablanca-Settat presented a clear vision for the metropolis and its surrounding territories. The objective is simple in form but ambitious in scope: reposition Casablanca as a destination that works for short stays, professional travel and immersive experiences, without relying on clichés or temporary momentum.
At the center of this strategy stands Bouchra Taibi, Director General of the CRT Casablanca-Settat. Her message challenges an old assumption. Casablanca and its region are not lagging behind Morocco’s tourism transformation. They sit at its core. More than one hundred structured projects and close to two hundred identified points of interest already anchor the region within national priorities.
City Break and Business Travel as Strategic Anchors
Casablanca’s tourism vision rests on two complementary pillars.
The first is the city break.
The second is business travel.
For urban stays, the region has identified forty-six projects ready to be activated. The ambition is not to multiply attractions randomly, but to densify experience. Casablanca aims to become a place where a short visit feels intense, layered and memorable. The offer spans contemporary accommodation, thematic retail, cultural animation, creative leisure and innovative mobility. The city positions itself as an urban playground where modern life, heritage and experimentation intersect naturally.
The second pillar builds on what Casablanca already masters: business travel. Thirty-four projects are structured around this segment, strengthening the city’s role as Morocco’s corporate gateway. Conference spaces, specialized services, content studios and experiential venues form an ecosystem designed for professionals who expect efficiency without sacrificing atmosphere.
In this model, work and discovery are no longer separated. They coexist. Meetings end, but the experience continues.
Rural Depth, Experiential Logic and a Regional Vision
What makes this strategy distinctive is its regional reach. Casablanca itself represents only a small share of the Casablanca-Settat territory. Beyond the city, the region holds rural, coastal and peripheral zones with strong experiential potential.
More than two hundred points of interest have been identified across the region, with notable concentrations around El Jadida and surrounding provinces. These areas offer space for ecotourism, terroir-based experiences and community initiatives that complement the urban core rather than compete with it.
For the CRT, rural tourism is not an alternative product. It is a strategic extension. Green circuits, local craftsmanship and slow-paced experiences respond to a growing demand for authenticity while ensuring that tourism value circulates more evenly across the territory.
The goal is to transform static attractions into lived experiences that visitors can easily access and consume. Cultural, gastronomic, urban, rural, wellness and adventure experiences form a coherent portfolio designed to speak to diverse audiences.
Digital tools will support this shift. Interactive applications and immersive formats aim to attract a younger, connected public seeking personalization rather than standard itineraries.
From Infrastructure to Inspiration
Beyond projects and numbers, the strategy reflects a mindset. Tourism is seen as a field of entrepreneurship, creativity and generational renewal. Innovation is not decorative. It is structural. Youth is not a target audience only. It is a driving force.
The role of the CRT is to connect initiatives, inspire private actors and align local ambition with broader national and African dynamics. Casablanca’s repositioning does not rely on imitation. It builds on what the city already embodies: movement, contrast and openness.
In redefining its tourism playbook, Casablanca is not chasing trends. It is shaping its own narrative. One rooted in experience rather than spectacle. One that balances urban intensity with regional depth. One that invites visitors to feel the city, not just pass through it.
