Morocco continues to consolidate its position as a strategic industrial hub with the launch of a new expansion project at the Alstom site in Fes, dedicated to locomotive driving platforms. The laying of the foundation stone marks a significant step that reflects renewed confidence in Moroccan expertise and the Kingdom’s investment environment.
The ceremony took place in the presence of several high-level officials, including Christophe Lecourtier, Ambassador of France to Morocco, and Khalid Ait Taleb, Wali of the Fes–Meknes region. Senior representatives from the rail and industrial sectors were also in attendance, notably Henri Poupart-Lafarge, CEO of Alstom, and Mohamed Rabie Khlie, Director General of the ONCF.
Advanced Manufacturing for High-Speed Rail
According to information shared by the French Embassy in Morocco, the event also marked the launch of the first cabling batch for the new Avelia Horizon, Alstom’s latest generation of high-speed trains. This milestone highlights the Moroccan plant’s ability to keep pace with cutting-edge railway technologies while meeting strict international standards.
The project forms part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening Morocco’s railway ecosystem and boosting local industrial integration. By manufacturing locomotive driving platforms and producing advanced cabling locally, the expansion is expected to significantly increase the value added of Morocco’s industrial base.
A Boost for Sustainable Mobility and Regional Development
Beyond its industrial dimension, the Alstom expansion is seen as a lever for economic development in the Fes–Meknes region. The project is expected to generate specialized jobs, facilitate technology transfer, and enhance local skills, further improving Morocco’s attractiveness for major industrial investments.
By deepening its involvement in high-value railway manufacturing, Morocco reinforces its ambition to position itself as a leading platform for sustainable mobility, not only at the continental level but also on the global stage.
