Casablanca welcomes back one of its most iconic family attractions. The Aïn Sebaâ Zoo officially reopens with modern facilities, affordable prices and immersive experiences.
The city of Casablanca has officially reopened the historic Aïn Sebaâ Zoo, marking the return of one of the city’s most iconic family attractions after years of closure. The reopening ceremony was held under the presidency of Casablanca mayor Nabila Rmili, following an extensive rehabilitation project led by the City Council in coordination with local authorities.
Open to the public starting Tuesday, December 30, the newly revamped zoo covers an area of 15 hectares, welcomes visitors from 10:00 AM, and offers ticket prices starting from 40 dirhams. With a daily capacity of up to 6,000 visitors, the zoo aims to become a major leisure, educational and environmental hub in Casablanca.
A Historic Zoo Reborn in Casablanca
Originally created during the Protectorate era, Aïn Sebaâ Zoo holds a special place in the collective memory of Casablanca residents. After years of neglect, the site has undergone a comprehensive rehabilitation, officially inaugurated on Monday, December 29, in the presence of regional and local officials.
Now rebranded as Aïn Sebaâ Zoo, the park has been redesigned according to a modern and immersive concept, prioritizing animal welfare while offering visitors a more natural and engaging experience.
An Immersive Zoo Concept Without Visible Cages
The zoo is organized around three major geographical zones — Africa, Asia and South America — designed to replicate the natural habitats of the animals. The layout eliminates traditional cages in favor of open spaces and immersive viewing areas, bringing visitors closer to wildlife while respecting international animal welfare standards.
Animals and Species at Aïn Sebaâ Zoo
The park hosts an impressive collection of animals imported from various European countries, including:
- Elephants from Switzerland and Belgium
- Jaguars from the Czech Republic
- Giraffes from Italy
- Hyenas from the Netherlands
- A tapir from France
- Two rare pygmy hippos
In addition, the zoo is home to 13 lions, tigers, and several bird species housed in a large aviary, some of which are being exhibited in the region for the first time.
According to zoo director Mohamed Mgharfaoui, the facility shelters nearly 100 species representing around 500 animals, all bred in captivity and imported in compliance with Moroccan law 29-05 and the Washington Convention (CITES).

The zoo officially opens to the public on December 30, with seasonal opening hours:

- Summer: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
- Ramadan: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Restaurants, kiosks and cafés operate from 10:00 AM until closing time.

Services, Activities and Upcoming Experiences
Beyond animal exhibits, Aïn Sebaâ Zoo offers a range of visitor services, including a large restaurant overlooking the African savannah, souvenir shops inspired by wildlife, kiosks and cafés.
Children-focused activities include educational workshops, interactive animations, recreational programs and birthday party organization.
A 16-ride amusement park is scheduled to open in March, further expanding the zoo’s entertainment offering.
In the coming months, the zoo will also launch “Wild Immersion”, an innovative virtual reality experience using VR headsets to explore ecosystems and wildlife in an interactive and educational format.

The reopening of Aïn Sebaâ Zoo comes with extensive landscaping, green spaces, open pathways and scenic viewpoints designed for walking and photography.
