Michel Kuka Mboladinga, widely known as “Lumumba,” has transformed his viral moment at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations into a major commercial breakthrough. The Congolese supporter became famous for standing motionless during DR Congo’s matches, right arm raised in tribute to independence icon Patrice Lumumba.
His symbolic gesture, performed throughout the tournament, captured international attention and made him one of the most recognizable fans of the competition. Just weeks after the final whistle, that visibility has turned into opportunity.
On February 14, Michel Kuka signed a partnership worth 100 million Congolese francs (around $50,000) with smartphone giant TECNO. He now serves as the official face of the new TECNO CAMON 50 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The agreement includes television and digital advertising campaigns, product launch appearances in Kinshasa and other cities, and exclusive promotional content across his social media platforms.
Kuka described the partnership as a new step in his rise to prominence, highlighting the phone’s high-quality zoom capabilities during his first promotional appearance.
His story reflects a growing trend in African football culture: passionate supporters can become powerful public figures, bridging sport, national identity, and brand influence.
