Morocco’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 continue to attract international attention, not only for infrastructure and logistics, but also for security governance. Between January 4 and 6, a delegation from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted an official visit to the Kingdom to review the public safety and security framework deployed by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) for the upcoming continental tournament.
The delegation was led by Douglas Olson, Director of Operations within the FBI’s Field Intervention Services Division, alongside Kevin Kowalski, Deputy Director of the Emergency Response Group. The visit focused on understanding Morocco’s integrated approach to stadium security, crowd management, and inter-agency coordination during major sporting events.
Field Visit at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium
The program began with an on-site inspection of the security system at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, held concurrently with the match between Morocco and Tanzania. The FBI officials observed first-hand the deployment of security units, perimeter control strategies, and real-time monitoring mechanisms implemented during a high-attendance international fixture.
Particular attention was given to Morocco’s use of advanced surveillance tools, including drone-based aerial monitoring, high-definition camera networks, and centralized command-and-control rooms that coordinate field teams, intelligence inputs, and emergency response units. These systems form part of a layered security model designed to ensure spectator safety while maintaining smooth crowd flow.
Cooperation and Post-Match Assessment
Beyond the stadium visit, the delegation toured the African Security Cooperation Center, where they were briefed on its operational role in facilitating coordination between African security institutions. The visit included a working session dedicated to evaluating the security arrangements surrounding the Morocco–Tanzania match, allowing for technical exchanges on risk assessment, response timing, and inter-agency communication.
A Signal of Confidence Ahead of 2025
The FBI’s visit is widely seen as an acknowledgment of Morocco’s growing credibility in managing complex security operations linked to major events. As the country prepares to host AFCON 2025, and looks ahead to even larger global tournaments, such international engagements underline Morocco’s ambition to align its security standards with global best practices.
For MoroccoBeat readers, this development adds another dimension to the Kingdom’s readiness narrative: beyond stadiums and transport networks, Morocco is positioning itself as a regional reference in event security, institutional coordination, and public safety management during major football tournaments.
