Morocco continues to project a stable and influential international image by maintaining its position in the Global Soft Power Index 2026. Ranked 50th out of 193 countries, the Kingdom remains the best-positioned country in the Maghreb and ranks among the most influential nations in the Arab world, despite a global context marked by uncertainty.
According to the Global Soft Power Index 2026, published on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, by Brand Finance, Morocco retained its global ranking with a score of 40.6 points. This result confirms Morocco’s leadership at the Maghreb level and places it seventh among Arab League member states, reflecting the consistency of its regional and international appeal.
How the Global Soft Power Index Works
The Global Soft Power Index evaluates how countries are perceived worldwide based on several key criteria, including business environment, education, tourism, governance, and international relations. Soft power refers to a country’s ability to influence international actors through attraction, reputation, and persuasion rather than coercion.
Each country is assessed using 55 indicators, resulting in a score out of 100. The index covers all 193 United Nations member states and has become a global benchmark for measuring national influence through soft power.
Morocco Widens the Gap in the Maghreb
Within the Maghreb region, Morocco continues to widen the gap with neighboring countries. Algeria ranks 74th globally, followed closely by Tunisia in 75th position. Further down the ranking, Libya places 127th, while Mauritania drops to 158th, losing eight places compared to the previous year.
These rankings are based on a large-scale survey conducted among more than 150,000 respondents in over 100 countries, highlighting the global scope and credibility of the index.
Global and Regional Context
The report also points to a general weakening of country perceptions worldwide, driven by economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and social pressures. On a global scale, the United States retains the top position with a score of 74.9, ahead of China, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France.
In the Middle East and North Africa region, the United Arab Emirates continue to lead. Ranked 10th globally, the UAE recorded a score of 59.4 points, slightly down from 60.4 the previous year, yet firmly maintaining its regional leadership.
