
Bank Al-Maghrib unveils commemorative currency marking AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
To mark Morocco’s hosting of AFCON 2025, Bank Al-Maghrib has announced the issuance of a commemorative silver coin and a special 100 dirham banknote. Both items celebrate the country’s organization of the continent’s flagship football tournament.
A 250 dirham silver commemorative coin
The commemorative coin has a face value of 250 dirhams and is struck in silver. Its obverse features the portrait of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, along with identifying inscriptions of the Kingdom and the issuance date 1447–2025.
The reverse displays the inscription “MOROCCO 2025” alongside an artistic representation of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat. The design is completed with a map of Africa, fireworks motifs, and the nominal value written in both numbers and letters.
According to Bank Al-Maghrib, the coin is composed of 925‰ silver and 75‰ copper. It weighs 28.28 grams and has a diameter of 38.61 millimeters.
A special 100 dirham banknote issued for circulation
In parallel, Bank Al-Maghrib has introduced a commemorative 100 dirham banknote highlighting Morocco’s commitment to sports development. The front side features the portrait of His Majesty the King, the national emblem, and an artistic view of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex.
Decorative elements inspired by Moroccan heritage and a map of Africa reinforce the continental dimension of AFCON 2025.


Advanced security features and limited release
The reverse of the banknote includes the name of the issuing institution written in Tifinagh and Latin characters, an interior view of the stadium, and a graphic representation of football players alongside a ball bearing the map of Africa.
The banknote incorporates advanced security features, including a windowed security thread with color-shifting effects, special inks that change color depending on viewing angle, and raised markings designed to assist the visually impaired.
Bank Al-Maghrib confirmed that the commemorative 100 dirham banknote has full legal tender status and will be released in a limited edition on December 22, 2025.
