The United Kingdom Embassy in Morocco has officially announced that the UK will transition to a fully digital visa system starting February 25, 2026. This major reform marks the end of physical visa stickers in passports and introduces a new, fully dematerialized way for travelers to prove their immigration status.

The change represents a significant modernization of the UK’s immigration framework, aiming to make visa procedures simpler, faster, and more secure for travelers, including Moroccan nationals who require a visa to enter the United Kingdom.

What Is the UK eVisa?

The new UK eVisa is an official digital record that contains a traveler’s identity and immigration status. Once a visa application is approved, applicants will no longer receive a physical vignette placed in their passport. Instead, their visa details will be stored electronically.

The eVisa specifies the type of visa granted or, where applicable, permanent residence status, along with associated conditions such as the right to work, study, or reside in the UK. Over time, this digital system will replace all traditional physical immigration documents.

A Broader Digital Transformation of UK Immigration

This reform follows earlier changes already implemented by British authorities. Biometric residence permits were previously replaced by digital immigration status, and this transition is now being extended to biometric residence cards and traditional passport stamps.

Once fully implemented, the eVisa will become the sole official reference for proving immigration status in the United Kingdom, eliminating the need for paper-based or physical documents.

How Travelers Will Use the eVisa

In practical terms, eVisa holders will be able to prove their legal status when carrying out everyday procedures such as applying for a job, renting accommodation, or accessing services. A secure share code can be generated online and provided to employers, landlords, or public authorities.

Travel to the United Kingdom will remain possible as long as the traveler’s passport or travel document is correctly linked to their electronic visa record within the system.
