With annual revenues exceeding $227 million in 2024 and a rapidly expanding player base, Morocco’s gaming market is emerging as one of the most dynamic in Africa. Driven by a young population, smartphone adoption, and growing institutional support, the industry is undergoing a major transformation across mobile, console, and PC segments.
This article is based on reporting from the Moroccan daily L’Economiste and the 2026 African video game industry report.
A Market Growing at Record Speed
According to the report “State of the Industry: African Video Game Report 2026” published by SpielFabrique, Morocco’s gaming revenues are projected to reach $227.3 million in 2024 (over 2.07 billion dirhams). This figure is expected to climb to $297 million by 2027, representing growth of more than 30% in just three years.
Nearly 7 million Moroccans are active gamers in 2024, representing about 19.5% of the population. By 2027, this number is expected to reach 8.4 million players.
Mobile Gaming Leads the Way
The mobile segment dominates the Moroccan market, fueled by widespread smartphone use and improved digital access. Consoles are also gaining popularity, especially thanks to strong demand for PlayStation and Xbox systems, while PC gaming continues to grow steadily.
- Competitive Titles: Battle Royale games like PUBG (developed by PUBG Studios, a subsidiary of Krafton) are particularly popular.
- Sports Simulations: Massive success is seen in EA Sports FC, which replaced the FIFA brand in 2023.
- Casual Gaming: Global hits like Candy Crush and Royal Match attract a broad Moroccan audience, reflecting the trend toward accessible experiences.

Regionally, Morocco ranks as the fourth-largest gaming market in Africa. Across the continent, the industry generated approximately $2.29 billion in 2025, up from $1.8 billion in 2024. Africa’s annual growth rate of 12.32% is now significantly higher than the global average of 7.5%.

From Hobby to Strategic Industry
The Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication has made gaming development a national priority. Events such as the Gaming Expo and the creation of Rabat Gaming City demonstrate Morocco’s ambition to become a regional hub. Training programs are being introduced to help Moroccan developers transition from consumers to creators.
Building a Competitive Ecosystem
Morocco’s strategy, supported by the “Offre Maroc” program, is built on several key pillars:
- Development of technological infrastructure and dedicated studio zones.
- Expansion of specialized training programs to meet international standards.
- Support for startups through the “Video Game Incubator” initiative.
- Investment incentives to attract foreign capital.

Morocco’s gaming industry is experiencing a true transformation, combining technological innovation, demographic advantages, and economic ambition. With strong mobile growth, rising console demand, and growing institutional backing, the country is well-positioned as a major player in Africa’s digital entertainment economy.
