Just weeks before the highly anticipated 2025 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on December 21, Morocco is preparing one of the most ambitious technological upgrades in the history of African sports broadcasting. The Société Nationale de Radiodiffusion et de Télévision (SNRT), together with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), is working to elevate the production of “CAN Morocco 2025” to standards approaching those of the FIFA World Cup.
According to information obtained by Assahra Al Maghribia, SNRT is completing the construction of a massive centralized broadcast studio, led by the national sports channel. This studio will serve as the tournament’s operational nerve center—coordinating live signals from all stadiums, managing commentary teams, ensuring a unified visual identity, and supervising every technical aspect of the broadcast.
The objective is clear: create a modern, immersive, world-class audiovisual product that not only meets CAF standards but sets a new benchmark for the entire African continent.
A First for Africa: A Continental Tournament Broadcast in HDR
Morocco will become the first African country to produce and broadcast a major continental tournament in HDR (High Dynamic Range), a premium visual technology previously reserved for major global competitions like the UEFA Euro and the FIFA World Cup.
HDR provides sharper images, deeper contrasts, and an enhanced sense of immersion—offering viewers across Africa and the world an unprecedented visual experience for an African football tournament.
Spider Cam, FPV Drones & Ultra Slow Motion: A World-Class Production Setup
To elevate the visual spectacle, SNRT will deploy an array of advanced filming technologies in all CAN 2025 stadiums, including:
- Spider Cam systems for sweeping aerial shots and cinematic movement
- Two drones per stadium, including a high-speed FPV drone capable of flying close to the action
- 7 to 9 Ultra Motion servers—more than double the CAF requirements—allowing extreme slow-motion replays and multiple vantage points
This setup mirrors the standards used in Europe’s top competitions, demonstrating Morocco’s intention to produce a visually stunning tournament.
The FRMF and SNRT have also coordinated with all host cities to standardize the technical equipment across stadiums, ensuring consistency and perfect signal uniformity.
Direct International Transmission, Without Passing Through Europe
Another major breakthrough: for the first time in African football history, the international broadcast signal will be transmitted directly from Morocco to European and American distribution hubs, without routing through intermediate stations typically located in Paris.
This not only accelerates transmission but cements Morocco’s growing role as a continental broadcasting hub capable of delivering stable, high-quality global feeds.
A Top European Director to Enhance Production Quality
To ensure world-class execution, the FRMF and SNRT have enlisted one of France’s leading sports directors—an expert who has worked on major European finals. He will oversee:
- The opening ceremony
- The production of Morocco’s matches
- The final match of CAN 2025
- The overall visual identity of the tournament
This collaboration reflects Morocco’s ambition: to deliver the most advanced and polished CAN ever produced.
Part of a Much Bigger Vision: Morocco’s Soft Power Strategy
These massive investments are part of a broader national strategy. By 2030, Morocco aims not only to co-host a FIFA World Cup at the highest technical level, but to establish a sustainable sports-media industry capable of:
- Attracting international investment
- Developing high-level national talent
- Strengthening continental broadcasting partnerships
- Using technology as a catalyst for diplomatic and cultural influence
In this context, “CAN Morocco 2025” is much more than a football tournament, it is a dress rehearsal and a powerful accelerator for Morocco’s long-term objective: making audiovisual sports production a key pillar of its soft power and continental leadership.
