French Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais have officially announced the signing of Moroccan midfielder Yassir Zabiri from Portuguese side Famalicão during the current winter transfer window.
The Brittany-based club confirmed on Monday evening that Zabiri has signed a long-term contract keeping him at Stade Rennais until the summer of 2029, underlining the club’s commitment to investing in young and high-potential players.
A Highly Sought-After Moroccan Prospect
Yassir Zabiri had attracted interest from several clubs in recent months, particularly after his standout performances at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, where he played a key role in Morocco’s campaign and contributed to the team’s title success at youth level.
His development and consistency at Famalicão further strengthened his reputation as one of Morocco’s most promising young talents, ultimately convincing Stade Rennais to secure his signature.
Stade Rennais’ Vision for Youth Development
Loïc Désiré, Sporting Director of Stade Rennais, explained that Zabiri’s arrival aligns perfectly with the club’s long-term strategy of identifying, developing, and preparing young players to perform at the highest level of European football.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Désiré praised the Moroccan international’s qualities, stating:
“Yassir is a talented player who has reached an important stage in his development following his participation in the U-20 World Cup. He stands out for his intelligent off-the-ball movement, his strong reading of the game, his work rate, and his composure in front of goal, which makes him a very promising project.”
Recruitment Strategy Pays Off
Désiré also highlighted the efforts of the club’s recruitment department, which closely monitored Zabiri during his time in Portugal.
“I would also like to commend the excellent work carried out by our recruitment unit, which made several visits to Portugal. This transfer is the direct result of their continuous efforts.”
Drawing a parallel with previous successful signings, he added:
“Like Abdelhamid, who has made significant progress since joining us, we sincerely hope that Yassir will fully express his potential while wearing the Stade Rennais jersey.”
A Long-Term Commitment
With a contract running until 2029, Stade Rennais are clearly betting on Zabiri’s long-term development. The move represents a significant step forward in the young Moroccan’s career as he prepares to adapt to Ligue 1 and continue his progression at a club known for nurturing young talent.
