Morocco’s Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch has praised the Kingdom’s organization of the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, describing it as the most successful AFCON in history. Speaking before Parliament, he also addressed the national team’s journey and delivered a heartfelt message to Moroccan star Brahim Díaz.

“The most successful AFCON edition without dispute”

Addressing members of the House of Representatives on Monday, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch highlighted the exceptional level of organization displayed by Morocco throughout AFCON 2025.

According to Akhannouch, the tournament offered a positive image of the country and created a vibrant sporting atmosphere, proving Morocco’s ability to host continental events with responsibility and confidence.

He stressed that this success sends a clear message to the world: Morocco is not only capable of hosting Africa, but is fully ready—starting today—to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Royal vision at the heart of Morocco’s sporting progress

The Prime Minister also referred to the message sent by King Mohammed VI to the Moroccan national team after the end of the tournament, describing it as profound and meaningful.

He underlined that the sporting journey and major investments achieved in recent years are the direct result of the Royal vision aimed at building the Morocco of the future.

Akhannouch noted that even challenging weather conditions during the competition, including heavy rainfall affecting matches day and night, were successfully managed without compromising the quality of the event.

Tribute to the Lions of the Atlas

The Head of Government paid tribute to the Moroccan national team for their fighting spirit and commitment throughout the tournament.

“Football is about winning and losing,” he said, adding that the final result does not always reflect the scale of the work done. He acknowledged the collective disappointment felt by Moroccans after the final but emphasized the pride inspired by the team’s performances.

A special message to Brahim Díaz

Akhannouch reserved a special message for Brahim Díaz, one of the standout figures of AFCON 2025 and the tournament’s top scorer.

He recalled that Díaz made a conscious choice to join the Moroccan national team and proudly wear its jersey, telling him: “You did not just join the national team—you entered the hearts of all Moroccans.”

This statement reflects the strong emotional bond that now unites the Real Madrid forward with Moroccan supporters.

An unprecedented organizational achievement

The Prime Minister’s remarks echoed the praise expressed by several Members of Parliament, who highlighted the scale of the organizational effort.

Over the course of one month, Morocco mobilized nine stadiums across six cities, delivering an unprecedented logistical and operational performance that reinforced the Kingdom’s status as a leading sporting destination on the African continent.
