Every year on March 27, the world honors the stage, and in 2026, Morocco is taking this celebration to new heights. The Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication has unveiled an ambitious national program designed to bring the magic of theatre to every corner of the Kingdom.
Chichaoua: The Heart of the 2026 Official Celebration
In a move toward cultural decentralization, the official national celebration will be held from March 27 to 29 at the recently inaugurated Cultural Center in Chichaoua. The festivities kick off on Friday, March 27, at 6:00 PM with a keynote address from the Minister and the reading of the International World Theatre Day Message—written this year by world-renowned actor Willem Dafoe.
Honoring the Icons of Moroccan Stage
A highlight of the opening night will be the vibrant tributes paid to three pillars of the Moroccan theatrical scene:
- Naïma Zitan: Celebrated for her bold and socially engaged direction.
- Miloud El Habachi: A veteran actor with an indelible mark on stage and screen.
- Mohamed Kaouti: Honored for his profound contributions to playwriting and theory.
The evening will culminate in a performance of the play “L’fichta” by the acclaimed Artellili troupe.

The celebration extends beyond the spotlight with professional development sessions on March 28 and 29:
