The 21st edition of the International Nomads Festival will take place from April 3 to 5, 2026, in M’Hamid El Ghizlane, in Morocco’s Zagora province. Held under the theme “A Living Heritage, An Edition Turned Towards the Future”, the event continues its mission of preserving Saharan cultural identity while embracing modern artistic expression.
For over two decades, the festival has played a key role in safeguarding intangible desert heritage, promoting traditional craftsmanship, supporting young artists, and fostering sustainable tourism in southern Morocco.
A Unique Celebration of Saharan Culture
Over three days, visitors will experience a rich program combining music, traditions, and immersive cultural activities. Concerts and live performances will animate the desert nights, while daytime activities will showcase ancestral practices and local know-how.
Festival-goers will also discover traditional sports such as camel racing, sand hockey, and falconry, alongside exhibitions of Saharan crafts and local products.
An Immersive Desert Experience
Beyond performances, the festival offers a complete cultural immersion. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste the iconic “Mella” sand bread, accompanied by traditional tea and nomadic cuisine, reflecting the hospitality and culinary richness of the desert.
Conferences, meetings, and roundtables will also be organized to address the challenges of life in desert regions, highlighting environmental, social, and cultural issues.
An International and Diverse Line-Up
The 2026 edition features a strong artistic program bringing together talents from Morocco, Africa, and Europe. Among the highlights is the participation of Dan Gharibian, a renowned figure in gypsy music, alongside Toumastine (Niger) and Tartit (Mali), both celebrated ambassadors of Tuareg musical heritage.
Artists such as Virginie Dembélé and Ibrahim Lagfiri will also take the stage, blending modern sounds with traditional Saharan rhythms to create a powerful musical dialogue.
