Government, Banking and Tech Leaders Join Forces
In a move aligned with Morocco’s strong tourism momentum, the Ministry of Tourism has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding to launch “Stay Cashless,” a national program designed to accelerate digital transformation across the tourism sector.
The agreement brings together Attijariwafa bank, global payments leader Visa, and the Ministry of Tourism, represented by Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor. The initiative aims to simplify and secure tourist payments throughout their stay in Morocco, while enhancing competitiveness for local operators.
With travel revenues reaching 138 billion dirhams in 2025 and a record 20 million visitors welcomed the same year, Morocco’s tourism industry is expanding rapidly. Officials stress that large-scale adoption of digital payments has become essential as international travelers increasingly expect seamless, cashless experiences.
Modern Tools for a More Competitive Tourism Ecosystem
The program, implemented operationally through Attijari Payment and the Confédération Nationale du Tourisme, will provide attractive conditions for electronic payment adoption. Solutions include pay-by-link systems, tap-on-phone technology, and dynamic currency conversion, alongside reduced international commission fees.
Beyond technology, “Stay Cashless” incorporates structured communication, training, and awareness campaigns to support small and medium-sized tourism enterprises in upgrading their capabilities.
By combining financial infrastructure, global expertise, and local industry coordination, Morocco aims to strengthen visitor confidence, modernize its tourism value chain, and move decisively toward a more connected and inclusive economy ahead of 2030.
