Rabat has taken a new step in blending culture and digital innovation with the official launch of Rabat Patrimoine, a mobile application dedicated to discovering the city’s UNESCO-listed heritage. Developed under the initiative of the Rabat Région Patrimoine Historique, the app is designed for residents, visitors, and culture enthusiasts seeking a deeper understanding of Morocco’s capital.

The application focuses on the eight components of Rabat inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, along with their surrounding buffer zone. Rather than offering a simple digital map, the platform delivers an immersive experience that combines storytelling, navigation, and multimedia content.

Multiple Routes for Different Ways of Visiting

Rabat Patrimoine offers several curated routes adapted to different interests and timeframes. Users can choose a World Heritage circuit that explores each UNESCO-listed site in detail, or a general circuit providing a broad overview of Rabat’s historical identity.

The app also includes four thematic itineraries. The Grand Tour connects Rabat’s most emblematic landmarks, while the museum circuit highlights the city’s cultural institutions. A dedicated natural heritage route showcases gardens, parks, and landscapes, and an architectural and urban circuit focuses on major buildings that shaped Rabat’s evolution as a capital.

Available in Arabic, French, English, and Spanish, the application is accessible to an international audience and encourages self-guided exploration at one’s own pace.

Technology Serving Cultural Transmission

Through narrative audio guides, interactive maps, geolocated routes, and rich multimedia content, Rabat Patrimoine reveals the layers of history, architecture, and cultural exchange that define the city. The application is free to access via the web and on Android and iOS platforms, making Rabat’s heritage more open and inclusive.

The project aligns with the cultural vision promoted by King Mohammed VI, which aims to position Rabat as a vibrant cultural capital rooted in its historical legacy while open to the world. By combining heritage and technology, the app offers a modern way to experience a city whose history belongs not only to Morocco, but to humanity as a whole.
