Morocco will soon launch a direct air route between Casablanca and Saint Petersburg, announced Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on Thursday, marking a new chapter in tourism and international connectivity.

Boosting Tourism Between Morocco and Russia

Speaking to Russia’s TASS agency, Bourita highlighted the growing popularity of Morocco among Russian tourists. “Morocco enjoys real popularity among Russian travelers,” he said, noting that weekly flights between Casablanca and Moscow had already strengthened tourism.

“The Kingdom will also launch flights between Casablanca and Saint Petersburg to maintain the steady development of tourism,” Bourita confirmed. This new route reflects Morocco’s strategic approach to diversifying tourist markets and strengthening ties with key partners beyond Europe.

Strengthening Morocco–Russia Relations

The Casablanca–Saint Petersburg route highlights Morocco’s expanding partnership with Russia in aviation, tourism, and culture. Rabat and Moscow have built strong connections in energy, agriculture, and trade. This route further enhances these ties, offering a direct gateway between North Africa and northern Russia.

Russian tourists are a growing market for Morocco, and authorities hope the new flight will increase visitor flows to Casablanca, Marrakech, and Agadir. This route also facilitates business travel, enabling Russian investors to explore Morocco’s economic opportunities.

Royal Air Maroc’s Expanding Network

The flights will be operated by Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Morocco’s national carrier, as part of its global expansion strategy. RAM continues to strengthen its network, connecting Africa, Europe, and Asia efficiently. The Casablanca–Saint Petersburg line provides travelers with easier access to southern Moroccan destinations while promoting cultural and economic exchange. It also complements Morocco’s long-term air transport vision, detailed in From Stadiums to Skies: Morocco’s Air Transport Strategy for the 2025‑2030 Sports Era.

Tourism Vision: Morocco as a Global Hub

The flight aligns with Morocco’s national tourism strategy, aimed at attracting diverse global markets. The kingdom focuses on expanding access from Eastern Europe and Asia, showcasing its unique combination of desert, coastline, and cultural heritage.

Casablanca continues to position itself as a regional air hub, connecting Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. With growing flight networks and modern airport infrastructure, Morocco enhances its status as a gateway for international travelers.

A Step Toward Closer Cooperation

Beyond logistics, this project symbolizes Morocco’s broader diplomatic and cultural engagement with Russia. Tourism remains a key pillar of Morocco’s international outreach, fostering stronger human, economic, and cultural ties.

The Casablanca–Saint Petersburg connection signals Morocco’s confidence in becoming a global bridge, inviting travelers and investors to explore its rich landscapes, culture, and opportunities.
