Summary: On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, a major technical outage at Cloudflare — a widely used internet infrastructure provider — caused temporary interruptions across large parts of the web. Several Moroccan websites and online services were affected for several hours. This article explains what happened, why MoroccoBeat was unreachable during the outage, and the current status of our site.

What happened?

Between approximately 12:20 and 15:30 (local time), hundreds of millions of internet users around the world experienced service errors (such as HTTP 500, 502 or 503), blank pages, and extremely long page load times. Major global platforms reported partial or full interruptions during the incident.

Cloudflare acknowledged the incident early in the outage window and attributed the disruption to an “unusual spike in traffic” that saturated part of its network and triggered cascading failures. Because Cloudflare provides content delivery, DNS and security edge services to a large portion of the internet, the service degradation produced broad, cross-border effects.

Which services were impacted?

Globally, many well-known platforms experienced interruptions. Examples reported during the incident include X (Twitter), ChatGPT / OpenAI services, Claude AI, Discord, Spotify, Canva, Revolut, League of Legends, and several news and content sites.

In Morocco, the outage made many widely used sites and services temporarily inaccessible, including news portals, e-government sites, some banking online portals, e-visa platforms and other web services that rely on Cloudflare’s network for performance and protection.

Why did MoroccoBeat go offline?

MoroccoBeat uses Cloudflare services to accelerate page delivery and to protect the site from attacks (DDoS mitigation and edge caching). When Cloudflare’s network experienced saturation caused by the traffic spike, sites that depend on its edge services — including MoroccoBeat — became temporarily unreachable even though our internal servers and editorial systems were functioning normally.

Put simply: the interruption was caused by an external infrastructure failure, not by internal maintenance or misconfiguration at MoroccoBeat. The outage was therefore outside of our control.

Our response and current status

As soon as the incident was reported, our technical team monitored the situation closely and coordinated with our provider. Once Cloudflare restored normal operation, MoroccoBeat resumed full service and we verified that pages and features were loading correctly.

We remain committed to delivering fast, reliable and secure content. We will continue to review our infrastructure and contingency plans to reduce the impact of any future third-party outages.

We apologize

We sincerely apologize to our readers for the inconvenience caused by today’s outage. We appreciate your patience and continued trust. If you experienced problems accessing our site or any of our services, please contact us so we can assist.

Note: Cloudflare reported the incident as a traffic surge that saturated part of its network. Details about the root cause and remediation were published by Cloudflare in their incident report; for the most up-to-date technical details please refer to Cloudflare’s official status page.
