As part of its global tour ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the iconic World Cup Trophy made a special stop in Morocco on Wednesday, visiting Rabat and Casablanca. The international tour is organized by Coca-Cola in collaboration with FIFA, bringing the prestigious symbol of world football closer to fans across the globe.
The Moroccan leg of the tour began at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, a symbolic location known as the home of the Atlas Lions. The event gathered several prominent figures from the sports world, including FIFA Legend and former France captain Marcel Desailly.
A Symbolic Visit at the Home of the Atlas Lions
Guests and officials attending the ceremony had the rare opportunity to admire the original replica of the World Cup Trophy up close. Designed by Italian artist Silvio Gazzaniga for the 1974 World Cup, the trophy is made of 18-carat solid gold and features two bands of malachite, a green stone symbolizing football pitches.
Beyond its striking design and materials, the trophy carries immense symbolic value, representing the ultimate dream for national teams and players worldwide.
Marcel Desailly Praises Moroccan Football
Speaking at the event in his capacity as a FIFA Legend, Marcel Desailly reflected on his own memories with the famous trophy, which he lifted with France after winning the 1998 World Cup. He also expressed strong admiration for the Moroccan national team and the progress achieved by Moroccan football in recent years.
Despite Morocco’s defeat in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Desailly believes the Atlas Lions have all the necessary tools to bounce back and aim even higher on the international stage.

“This AFCON final loss can be a blessing in disguise,” Desailly said. “Sometimes you have to go through setbacks in order to come back stronger. Morocco has all the tools needed to rebound.”
