The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has been postponed following a request from Morocco, according to information reported by L’Équipe. The Confederation of African Football, approved the delay after months of organizational uncertainty.
The tournament was initially scheduled to begin on March 17 and run until early April in Morocco, just months after the men’s edition concluded with Senegal defeating Morocco in the final. However, logistical questions and planning challenges appear to have led to the decision to move the competition to a later, yet unspecified date.
South Africa Had Expressed Interest
Earlier this month, South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Sports publicly suggested that her country could step in as host. She indicated that South Africa possessed the necessary infrastructure and had shown readiness after what was described as Morocco’s unavailability.
Despite those statements, Morocco remains the designated host nation for the women’s tournament. Authorities opted for postponement rather than withdrawal, signaling their continued commitment to staging the event.
Awaiting Official Confirmation
Neither Moroccan officials nor CAF have issued a formal statement detailing the new schedule. No revised calendar has been communicated so far.
The postponement comes at a key moment for Moroccan football as the country continues to strengthen its position in continental competitions and prepares major infrastructure and governance reforms ahead of upcoming international events.
