The draw for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026 was held on Thursday, January 15, in Rabat. Host nation Morocco has been placed in Group A alongside Senegal, Algeria and Kenya.
Morocco hosts an expanded WAFCON 2026
The draw ceremony took place at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, confirming the group stage line-up for the upcoming edition of the continental tournament. The 2026 Women’s AFCON will be held in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, marking the third consecutive time the kingdom hosts the competition.
This edition will feature an expanded format, with the number of participating teams increasing from 12 to 16, reflecting the rapid growth of women’s football across Africa.
The Lionesses of the Atlas aim for a historic title
The Lionesses of the Atlas enter the tournament as one of the top contenders. Morocco reached the final in the last two editions, finishing runners-up against South Africa in 2022 and Nigeria in 2025.
Drawn in Group A, Morocco will face Senegal, Algeria and Kenya in what promises to be a competitive group, with all teams aiming for a place in the knockout stages.
