Morocco’s golden generation closes another chapter. Romain Saïss has officially announced his retirement from international football, bringing to an end a distinguished journey with the Atlas Lions, during which he served as captain and defensive leader.
In an emotional message shared on Instagram, Saïss described his time with the national team as the “most beautiful chapter” of his career. Wearing Morocco’s shirt and captain’s armband, he wrote, represented the highest honor of his sporting life.

Over the course of 86 international appearances, Saïss became one of the defining figures of Morocco’s modern football era. His final appearance came during the recent Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Morocco, where the Atlas Lions finished as runners-up.
