According to barlamane.com, Morocco has officially offered to host the Spain–Argentina Finalissima after uncertainty surrounding the original venue in Doha. The proposal comes as international football authorities seek a neutral and stable location for the high-profile clash.
Doha uncertainty opens door to new host
The Finalissima, scheduled for March 27 at Lusail Stadium in Doha, now faces uncertainty following the suspension of competitions by the Qatar Football Association amid rising regional tensions.
According to reports cited by Reuters, London currently appears as the preferred alternative. However, no final decision has been confirmed.
European and South American football leaders are expected to meet before March 5 to determine the venue for the match between the European champion and the Copa América winner.
London, Madrid and Miami considered
The 2022 edition took place at Wembley Stadium in London, where Argentina defeated Italy. This time, Wembley is unavailable due to a scheduled England vs Uruguay friendly on the same date.
Other London stadiums remain possible options, reinforcing the British capital’s position as a strong candidate.
Madrid was proposed by the Royal Spanish Football Federation, but the Argentine Football Association reportedly preferred a neutral ground. Miami was also mentioned, especially given Lionel Messi’s presence at Inter Miami, yet the Hard Rock Stadium is hosting the Miami Open tennis tournament during that period.
Morocco’s strategic proposal
In this context, Morocco has formally expressed its readiness to stage the Finalissima. The country highlighted its modern stadium infrastructure and its recent experience in hosting international tournaments.
The proposal carries symbolic weight as Morocco, Spain and Portugal will co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Rabat and Madrid are also competing to host the 2030 final, adding strategic relevance to Morocco’s positioning.
Any change of venue requires approval from the Spanish federation, UEFA, CONMEBOL, FIFA and the Argentine federation. Discussions remain ongoing as all parties aim to secure the March international window without disruption.
