Morocco’s national football team is entering a new phase as the Royal Moroccan Football Federation prepares to clarify the future structure of the Atlas Lions. Speaking during the weekly press briefing following the Government Council meeting, FRMF president Fouzi Lekjaa confirmed that all mechanisms related to the national team’s organization have been defined and that official announcements will be made soon.
FRMF Signals New Phase for Morocco National Team Ahead of World Cup Preparations
According to hesport, Lekjaa stressed that the priority lies in institutional work rather than individuals. He noted that Morocco now competes among the world’s leading football nations and currently ranks eighth globally. The main objective remains maintaining the same approach and competitive level achieved in recent years as the country prepares for the next FIFA World Cup.
New Coach Expected Ahead of March Training Camp
According the same outlet, the federation is expected to officially present Mohamed Ouahbi as the new national team coach during a press conference at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora. The event will also mark the end of Walid Regragui’s tenure, with the federation expected to thank him for his achievements, including leading Morocco to a historic fourth place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The timing is crucial as Morocco will begin its March training camp in about twenty days. The Atlas Lions are scheduled to play two friendly matches against Ecuador on March 27 and Paraguay on March 31 in Spain and France respectively, as part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
