Motsepe Confirms: Morocco the First and Only Choice to Host "AFCON 2025"

In a decisive statement that ends all speculation, Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), confirmed that the Kingdom of Morocco remains the sole and final choice to host the AFCON 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite recent discussions about regional developments.

Confidence in Morocco’s Organizational Strength

During a press conference following CAF’s 47th General Assembly in Kinshasa, Motsepe emphasized: “Morocco is the first, second, and third choice.” He expressed absolute trust in Morocco’s ability to deliver a historic tournament: “I am confident that Morocco, with the support of its government and people, will organize the best edition in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations.”

Dispelling Rumors

This statement directly refutes claims suggesting CAF might move the tournament elsewhere. Some media outlets had attempted to exploit recent social movements in Morocco to question the country’s readiness.

Major Economic and Sporting Event in Morocco

Motsepe also announced that a major continental economic and sporting event will take place in Morocco on December 20, bringing together investors, international partners, and stakeholders from across the globe. The goal is to strengthen African football and encourage investment.

“We will gather key investors and partners in Morocco to exchange ideas and create new partnerships. Africa needs their support to develop football for both boys and girls,” Motsepe said.

A Clear Message for the Future

Motsepe stressed that Morocco is the trusted host for AFCON 2025, highlighting that internal challenges in other countries should not be used to politicize sports or undermine a promising sporting development project. Collaboration among governments, football associations, investors, and sponsors is essential to ensure the growth and sustainability of African football.

Morocco: A Model for Major Events

With its world-class infrastructure and organizational expertise, Morocco represents a successful model and a reliable destination for hosting major continental and international sporting events.
