Morocco is accelerating the development of grassroots sports infrastructure. As part of the FIFA Arena program, key stakeholders gathered at the Mohammed VI Football Complex near Salé to ensure the long-term impact of mini football pitches being built across the country.
Morocco Strengthens Its FIFA Arena Strategy
This strategic workshop follows the agreement signed on January 18 between FIFA, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, and OCP Group.
The initiative aims to build 30 FIFA Arena mini-pitches across Morocco, mainly within public schools, to promote access to football and encourage youth development through sport.
This project aligns with Morocco’s broader vision of developing sports infrastructure ahead of major events like the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Access and Governance at the Core
According to Abdesselam Mili, Director of School Sports Promotion, the main challenge is to establish a governance model that ensures these facilities remain accessible to as many young people as possible, both inside and outside school environments.
The goal is to transform these mini-pitches into community hubs, integrated into local neighborhoods and open to civil society, while ensuring their proper maintenance over time.
Building a Sustainable Model
Ismail Lyoubi, CEO of Evosport (OCP Group), emphasized that the workshop aims to design a sustainable management model to ensure these infrastructures deliver long-term impact.
Beyond infrastructure, the program includes structured support for children aged 6 to 14, with supervision provided by FIFA and the FRMF to guarantee high-quality training standards.
A Roadmap for the Future
Aïmane Zourhlal, FIFA representative, highlighted the importance of bringing together all stakeholders, including education officials, sports authorities, and local institutions, to develop a clear roadmap for the program’s long-term deployment.
Key topics discussed included the development of women’s football, educational initiatives such as FIFA Football for Schools, and medical and technical frameworks to support young players.
A Global Initiative with Local Impact
The FIFA Arena program is part of a global initiative aiming to build more than 1,000 mini-pitches worldwide. Its mission is to promote social inclusion, improve health, and strengthen community cohesion through sport.
