The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football is set to hold a crucial meeting to address key governance, disciplinary, and competition-related matters following the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025.
According to the official agenda, the session will examine the incidents that occurred during the AFCON 2025 final in Morocco, along with the disciplinary decisions issued in response. The meeting will also include a comprehensive review of refereeing performances and the management of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) operations throughout the tournament.
Focus on Governance, Discipline and Refereeing Standards
One of the central topics on the agenda is the assessment of referees and VAR operators during AFCON 2025. CAF aims to evaluate performance standards, operational consistency, and decision-making processes to enhance credibility and technical excellence in future competitions.
The Executive Committee will also review CAF’s regulatory framework, including updates to disciplinary and ethics codes, whistleblowing procedures, and broader governance policies. The objective is to reinforce transparency, institutional integrity, and accountability within African football’s governing body.
In addition, discussions will address the introduction of stricter and more deterrent sanctions against individuals, clubs, or federations found in violation of regulations. This move reflects CAF’s intent to safeguard the reputation of African football at both continental and global levels.
Preparations for Upcoming Tournaments in Morocco
Beyond disciplinary matters, the meeting will focus on preparations for several major tournaments scheduled in Morocco, including:
- Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026
- Africa Futsal Cup of Nations 2026
- Africa U-17 Cup of Nations 2026
CAF will also review planning for the 2026 finals of the CAF Champions League, the CAF Confederation Cup, and the CAF Super Cup, alongside beach soccer tournaments and the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The agenda further includes discussions on future hosting rights, notably the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations 2027, Africa Cup of Nations 2028, and the proposed African Nations League project covering the period from 2029 to 2037.
The meeting will also evaluate the work of CAF’s standing committees, as well as daily allowances for committee members, referees, VAR operators, and match commissioners.
As Morocco strengthens its position as a continental football hub ahead of major international milestones, these deliberations underscore CAF’s determination to improve governance standards while ensuring operational excellence across upcoming competitions.
