AFCON 2025: Nigeria cruise through as Egypt edge Benin after extra time

Egypt made to work hard by fearless Benin

Heavy favorites on paper, Egypt faced a stubborn Benin team that refused to be overawed. The Pharaohs started with intent, creating early chances through Omar Marmoush and Mohamed Hamdy, but goalkeeper Saturnin Dandjinou kept the Cheetahs in the game.

Benin gradually grew in confidence, pressing aggressively and defending with discipline. Despite sustained Egyptian pressure led by Mohamed Salah, the match remained tight deep into the second half.

Egypt finally broke the deadlock in the 70th minute through Attia, who found the top corner with a precise strike. Benin responded bravely and were rewarded when Dossou equalized late on, forcing extra time.

Nigeria ruthless against Mozambique

In Fes, Nigeria delivered one of the most dominant performances of the tournament, dismantling Mozambique 4-0. From the opening minutes, the Super Eagles imposed their tempo and attacking quality.

Ademola Lookman opened the scoring before turning provider for Victor Osimhen, who doubled the lead within minutes. Nigeria continued to overwhelm the Mambas, controlling possession and creating chances at will.
