Nigeria booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a convincing 2-0 victory over Algeria on Saturday at the Grand Stade de Marrakech.Goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams sealed a dominant performance by the Super Eagles.
The result ends hopes of a Morocco–Algeria derby in the last four, as Nigeria once again proved why they remain one of Africa’s most consistent tournament performers, reaching the semi-finals of AFCON for the 17th time in their history.
From the opening minutes, Nigeria imposed their rhythm, relying on the attacking trio of Osimhen, Adams and Ademola Lookman. The Algerian defense was placed under constant pressure, with several clear chances created before halftime, only kept out by last-ditch defending and goalkeeper Luca Zidane.
The breakthrough finally came just after the break. In the 47th minute, Onyemaechi delivered a precise cross from the left, allowing Victor Osimhen to rise above the defense and head Nigeria into a deserved lead.
Algeria struggled to respond offensively and were punished again ten minutes later.A rapid counter-attack saw Osimhen turn provider, setting up Akor Adams, who calmly rounded the goalkeeper and finished into an empty net to make it 2-0.
Despite tactical changes and increased possession in the final stages, the Fennecs failed to register a single shot on target.Nigeria managed the remainder of the match with authority, confirming their superiority on the night.
With this victory, the Super Eagles advance to the semi-finals, where they will continue their quest for a first AFCON title since 2013, while Algeria exit the tournament at the quarter-final stage.
