AFCON 2025 Quarterfinal: Morocco vs Cameroon, a True Battle Between Two African Giants

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has described the upcoming AFCON 2025 quarterfinal clash between Morocco and Cameroon
as a “true battle” between two major African football nations. The highly anticipated match will take place on Friday
at 8:00 PM local time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Speaking during the pre-match press conference on Thursday, Regragui emphasized the historical weight and competitive
nature of the encounter.

“This is a continental clash. In AFCON or at the World Cup, Cameroon has always been a great nation that carried Africa.
We hope to show the best image of African football,” Regragui said.

Mental Strength and Midfield Battle Key

According to the Moroccan coach, matches at this stage of the competition are often decided by mental strength and
small details.

“At this level of the tournament, confidence and mentality are crucial. The smallest mistake can be costly,”
he warned, highlighting the importance of controlling the midfield.

Regragui pointed to the quality of Morocco’s midfield options, including Bilal El Khannous, Ismael Saibari,
and Neil El Ainaoui, stressing that the team’s mindset will play a decisive role.

Confidence, Pressure, and Fan Support

The national coach acknowledged the pressure surrounding the host nation but insisted that the players are ready
to embrace it.

“The pressure is always there. The players feel it, and we must assume it. What matters most is that the fans
continue to support us. We have the humility to believe that we can win this AFCON.”

Regragui added that the team remains consistent in its approach and confident in its work, despite the high stakes.

Squad Update Ahead of the Quarterfinal

On the injury front, Regragui confirmed the return of striker Hamza Igamane, who has fully recovered from injury
and is now available for selection.

“We have recovered Hamza Igamane. He is now 100% fit,” the coach confirmed.

However, midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is still struggling with an ankle injury. Regragui noted that the medical staff
is doing everything possible to speed up his recovery.

Igamane: “The Most Important Thing Is Reaching the Semifinals”

For his part, Hamza Igamane acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming match against Cameroon.

“This match will not be easy. I thank the medical staff for helping me recover. I am 100% ready and at the coach’s
disposal. Whether I start or not doesn’t matter—the most important thing is reaching the semifinals.”

Cameroon secured their place in the quarterfinals after defeating South Africa 2–1, while Morocco booked their spot
with a narrow 1–0 victory over Tanzania. With both teams in strong form, Friday’s showdown promises to be one of
