The Fès Festival of World Sacred Music 2026 will welcome globally acclaimed musician Sami Yusuf for two exceptional concerts at the iconic Bab Makina venue in Morocco. For the first time in the festival’s history, the artist will perform twice during the same edition, reinforcing his long-standing connection with one of the world’s most prestigious spiritual music events.
Scheduled for June 6 and June 7, 2026, the performances will take place during the 29th edition of the internationally celebrated festival, which continues to position the imperial city of Fès as a major crossroads for intercultural dialogue, spirituality and artistic exchange.
Sami Yusuf Returns to the Historic Stage of Bab Makina
A leading figure in contemporary spiritual and world music, Sami Yusuf has become one of the most anticipated artists of the Fès Festival over the years. His performances at Bab Makina have consistently attracted audiences from Morocco and abroad, combining sacred poetry, orchestral arrangements and multicultural musical traditions.
The first concert will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 21:00 GMT. The following evening, Sami Yusuf will participate in the festival’s closing ceremony titled “The Night of Samaa – From Fès to Konya”, a large-scale artistic creation dedicated to Sufi heritage and sacred musical traditions.
A Unique Closing Ceremony Inspired by Sufi Traditions
The June 7 closing concert will bring together the Konya Metropolitan Sufi Music Ensemble, guardians of the Mevlevi musical tradition and the famous whirling dervish ceremony recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.
The event will also feature Moroccan Samaa performers alongside members of the Fons Sophia Collective, Moroccan singer Nabyla Maan, vocalist Ismail Boujia and Chinese musician Guo Gan. Together, the artists will explore musical dialogues inspired by Sufi traditions from the Maghreb, Anatolia and the Levant.
The production is expected to blend spiritual chants, orchestral textures and traditional instruments into a deeply immersive experience celebrating sacred music across cultures.
“Returning to Fès Is Always a Return to the Source”
In the official announcement accompanying his participation, Sami Yusuf highlighted the unique spiritual atmosphere of the Moroccan city:
“Few cities in the world carry the weight of the sacred like Fès. Returning here for the fourth time, in this millennial city and within a festival where the sacred and artistic truly meet, is always a return to the source.”
The statement reflects the artist’s special bond with the city and the festival, both recognized internationally for promoting peace, spirituality and intercultural dialogue through music.
A Global Career Bridging East and West
Trained from an early age in both Western classical music and Middle Eastern traditions, Sami Yusuf has established himself as one of the most influential names in contemporary world music. His repertoire draws inspiration from Sufi, Persian and Indo-Pakistani traditions while incorporating orchestral and polyphonic Western influences.
Nicknamed a “megastar” by the BBC, the artist has reportedly sold more than 45 million albums and generated over one billion downloads worldwide, making him one of the most commercially successful spiritual music artists of his generation.
New Album “Ecstasy” Marks a Major Artistic Milestone
The year 2026 also marks a new chapter in Sami Yusuf’s career with the release of his latest album “Ecstasy”, launched on March 27, 2026.
The project has already received strong critical acclaim thanks to tracks such as “Voices of the Earth” and “Being”, recorded in collaboration with the internationally renowned vocal ensemble VOCES8. The album continues Yusuf’s exploration of spirituality, transcendence and intercultural musical dialogue.
Fès Festival 2026 Reinforces Morocco’s Cultural Influence
The Fès Festival of World Sacred Music remains one of Morocco’s most important international cultural events. Founded to promote dialogue between civilizations and religions through music, the festival has welcomed legendary artists, spiritual leaders and performers from across the globe for nearly three decades.
Beyond its artistic dimension, the event contributes significantly to Morocco’s cultural tourism sector and reinforces Fès’ status as a UNESCO-listed spiritual and intellectual capital.
