As Morocco hosts the final phase of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, the Souss-Massa region officially launched the cultural and sports program “Kan Yama CAN” on Sunday, December 21, placing youth, creativity, and African identity at the heart of the continental celebration.
A program rooted in Youth Centers
Led by the Regional Directorate of Youth in Souss-Massa, the initiative was inaugurated in Agadir before being rolled out across several Youth Centers throughout the region. The program aims to transform these spaces into vibrant hubs where young people and football fans can gather, interact, and celebrate AFCON 2025 in a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
Throughout the tournament, Youth Centers will host live match screenings alongside a wide range of cultural, educational, and sporting activities designed to engage young audiences beyond the football pitch.
Sport and culture as tools for youth empowerment
“Kan Yama CAN” reflects a broader vision that sees sport and culture as powerful tools for youth development and social cohesion. The program seeks to strengthen values of citizenship, national pride, and African belonging, while encouraging active participation and creativity among young people.
In addition to football-related activities, the program includes local football tournaments and e-sports competitions, aligning with the evolving interests of youth and supporting digital engagement within a structured and educational framework.
Artistic expression inspired by African identity
Art plays a central role in the initiative. Creative workshops in drawing, collage, and calligraphy are being organized, inspired by African symbols and the universal values of sport. These activities aim to connect artistic expression with cultural heritage and sporting spirit.
The program also offers a platform for emerging talents through singing competitions and traditional poetry performances, encouraging young participants to express their passion for AFCON 2025 in creative and meaningful ways.
An educational and pan-African dimension
Beyond entertainment, “Kan Yama CAN” includes educational sessions and awareness activities highlighting the cultures and experiences of African nations participating in AFCON 2025. These sessions are followed by roundtable discussions that promote dialogue, exchange, and mutual understanding among young people.
A symbolic element of the program is the revival of the “AFCON Wall”, transformed into a collective artistic space reflecting African unity, coexistence, and shared values.
A lasting legacy beyond AFCON 2025
Designed as more than a temporary event, “Kan Yama CAN” aims to leave a lasting impact beyond the Africa Cup of Nations. Several cultural, sports, and civic activities will continue after the tournament, reinforcing long-term youth engagement and community participation.
Through this initiative, Souss-Massa highlights Morocco’s ambition to make AFCON 2025 a celebration that goes beyond football—one that empowers youth, promotes culture, and strengthens Africa’s shared identity.
