Essaouira closed the curtain on the 20th edition of the Festival des Andalousies Atlantiques with an evening that blended nostalgia, emotion, and joy. The festival, founded by the Association Essaouira-Mogador under the vision of André Azoulay, once again turned the coastal city into a stage where centuries of shared memory between Morocco and Andalusia came to life.
On Saturday night at Al Massira Hall, the legendary Raymonde El Bidaouia set the audience alight with a performance that felt like a celebration of Morocco’s musical soul. Surrounded by her orchestra, she revisited timeless pieces from the chaâbi, aïta, and arabo-andalous repertoires, music that transcends generations and communities.
The evening gathered artists and personalities from both sides of the Mediterranean. Among the guests were André Azoulay, advisor to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and founder of the festival, and Patricia del Pozo Fernández, Andalusian Minister of Culture, who reaffirmed the enduring ties between Moroccan and Spanish heritage.
