Spanish low-cost airline Vueling has announced the launch of new direct air routes between
Barcelona and Nador and Barcelona and Fes, reinforcing Morocco’s role as a key destination in the carrier’s summer 2026 program.
The new connections will operate from Vueling’s main operational base at Barcelona–El Prat Airport
and are part of a broader expansion that will add more than 60,000 additional seats to the airline’s
Morocco network next summer.
Strong Growth in Vueling’s Morocco Offer
According to data shared by the airline, the increase in capacity builds on existing routes to Morocco,
including Agadir, which will continue to be served during the summer season following its initial winter launch.
Vueling explains that the new direct flights respond to sustained demand driven by family travel, tourism, and cultural exchanges between Spain and Morocco.
The airline considers Nador and Fes as complementary destinations, appealing to both leisure and visiting-friends-and-relatives traffic.
Barcelona Airport at the Center of Expansion
The expansion toward Morocco comes alongside a wider increase in Vueling’s activity at Barcelona–El Prat Airport.
For the summer season, the airline plans to offer more than 17 million seats, representing a 3% year-on-year increase and an additional 500,000 seats compared to summer 2025.
Vueling also expects this upward trend to continue into 2026, with up to one million extra seats planned across its network.
According to Jordi Pla, Director of Network and Strategy, this summer schedule reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening connectivity from Spain, with a particular focus on Barcelona and key international corridors.
Nador and Fes: Two Complementary Moroccan Destinations
Located in northeastern Morocco, Nador is home to nearly 160,000 residents and is known for the
Marchica Lagoon, one of the largest coastal lagoons in the Mediterranean region.
The city also serves as a gateway to the Rif Mountains and the Al Hoceima National Park.
Fes, founded in 789, remains Morocco’s spiritual and intellectual capital.
Its historic medina, Fes el-Bali, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring more than 9,000 narrow streets.
Vueling believes the new direct connection will encourage cultural tourism and position Fes as an urban alternative
to Morocco’s beach destinations.
Additional Network Developments in Spain
Alongside its Morocco expansion, Vueling has announced the launch of a new Barcelona–Logroño route, improving air access to Spain’s La Rioja region.
The airline is also increasing capacity across several Spanish regions:
Galicia will gain more than 70,000 additional seats,
Bilbao will see a 7% increase, and Andalusia will benefit from a 19% capacity boost, with higher frequencies to Almería, Granada, Jerez, and Córdoba.
Strengthening Spain–Morocco Air Connectivity
With the launch of direct flights to Nador and Fes, Vueling continues to strengthen air connectivity
between Spain and Morocco, supporting tourism, diaspora travel, and economic exchanges.
The summer 2026 schedule confirms Morocco’s growing importance within European airline networks and
highlights Barcelona’s role as a strategic hub for travel between Europe and North Africa.
