Tourism activity in northern Morocco continues to accelerate. According to data from the Observatoire National du Tourisme, classified tourist accommodation establishments (EHTC) in the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region recorded more than 3.69 million overnight stays by the end of November.
This represents 9.3% of total national overnight stays during the first eleven months of the year, marking a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The regional occupancy rate reached 48%, reflecting steady demand across hotels and classified establishments.
Tangier Leads Regional Performance
Tangier continues to dominate the region’s tourism landscape. The city accounted for approximately 2.89 million overnight stays, equivalent to 5% of the national total. This figure represents a 14% year-on-year increase, with an occupancy rate climbing to 54%.
The data confirms Tangier’s position as one of Morocco’s fastest-growing urban destinations, supported by improved infrastructure, international connectivity, and rising interest in northern coastal tourism.
November Figures Confirm Upward Trend
For November alone, accommodation establishments across the region recorded nearly 250,000 overnight stays, representing 7% of the national total. This marks a 3% increase compared to November 2024, with an occupancy rate of 36%.
In Tangier specifically, hotels registered around 157,000 overnight stays in November, up more than 7% year-on-year. Occupancy in the city reached 45% during the month.
As Morocco strengthens its tourism strategy toward 2030, northern regions are clearly benefiting from renewed international interest and sustained domestic demand, reinforcing Tangier’s role as a strategic gateway for both leisure and business travel.
