Morocco has taken a significant step forward in strengthening its global air links with the signing of a landmark five-year agreement between the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) and Europe’s influential airline, EasyJet. The partnership is set to dramatically expand Morocco’s air capacity, elevate its visibility in key markets, and support the country’s long-term tourism ambitions.
A Historic First: EasyJet Opens Its First Non-European Base in Marrakech
At the heart of this new alliance is a major breakthrough: EasyJet will open its first operational base outside Europe at Marrakech Menara Airport. This strategic move represents a strong vote of confidence in Morocco’s tourism potential and follows extensive negotiations led by the ONMT.
The new base will host three Airbus aircraft from launch, supported by an investment exceeding €150 million. It marks the airline’s first expansion into a new non-European country in many years, underlining Morocco’s growing relevance on the international tourism map.
17% Growth in Air Capacity and 12 Million Passengers by 2030
Beginning in 2026, Morocco will benefit from a 17% increase in flight capacity across EasyJet routes, along with expanded offerings from EasyJet Holidays. This additional capacity will support Morocco’s strategy to diversify visitor arrivals and strengthen regional tourism growth across the country.
With this agreement, EasyJet and the ONMT aim to help drive Morocco toward an impressive projection of 12 million passengers by 2030, solidifying the Kingdom’s position as a leading global destination.
Job Creation and Strong Local Economic Impact
The opening of the Marrakech base alone is expected to create nearly 100 direct jobs and several thousand indirect jobs across aviation, tourism, and local services. According to the ONMT, each aircraft based in Marrakech will generate around €30 million in economic value, reinforcing the essential role of air transport in regional development and territorial growth.
