Moroccan Airports Record 868,000 Passengers in 10 Days as AFCON 2025 Begins with a Major Success

Morocco records 868,287 international passengers in just 10 days ahead of AFCON 2025, confirming its readiness to host Africa’s biggest football event.

Just hours before the opening whistle of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, According to Maghreb Intelligence Kingdom has already secured its first major victory, and it comes through Moroccan airports.

Between December 8 and December 18, Moroccan airports welcomed 868,287 international passengers, marking a 10.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024. A historic influx driven by the massive arrival of football fans from across Africa and beyond.

December 18: A Symbolic Record Day

The 18th of December stands out as a landmark date, setting a new all-time record for international arrivals. It reflects a country that is ready, well-prepared, and fully mobilized to host Africa’s biggest football event.

This surge confirms Morocco’s growing reputation as a global hub capable of handling large-scale international events with efficiency and confidence.

Operational Excellence Under Pressure

Behind this performance lies one key word: smooth passenger flow. On the ground, teams from the National Airports Office (ONDA), supported by the Ministry of Interior, the National Police (DGSN), Customs authorities, and the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, have been operating at full capacity.

The shared objective: ensure fast, secure and seamless passenger journeys despite exceptional traffic volumes.

7,327 Flights Across AFCON Host Airports

Over the same ten-day period, the six airports hosting AFCON 2025 matches recorded 7,327 aircraft movements, representing a 13% increase year-on-year.

Casablanca Mohammed V Airport confirmed its strategic hub status, handling 292,221 passengers, accounting for 33.7% of total traffic.

It was followed by Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier, Rabat and Fez, all experiencing sustained growth despite intense operational pressure.
