On the sidelines of the 46th edition of FITUR Madrid, held in the Spanish capital, promising discussions were launched regarding the creation of a direct air link between Fes and Dakar, a move seen as strategically significant for both Morocco and Senegal.

The initiative was put forward by Aziz Lebbar, Moroccan MP and Vice-Mayor of Fes, during talks with Amadou Ba, Senegal’s Minister of Culture, Handicrafts and Tourism.

The Senegalese minister welcomed the proposal, describing it as a high-potential project capable of boosting tourism, cultural exchange, and spiritual travel between the two countries. He notably highlighted the symbolic importance of strengthening ties between Fes and Dakar, often referred to as spiritual capitals in their respective regions.

Amadou Ba reportedly committed to forwarding the proposal to his counterpart in charge of transport, underlining the strategic value of such an air corridor in enhancing connectivity, people-to-people exchange, and South–South cooperation.

If realized, the Fes–Dakar route would mark a new step in Morocco–Senegal relations, reinforcing air connectivity in West and North Africa while supporting religious tourism, cultural mobility, and regional economic integration.
