The Moroccan capital is soaring higher than ever. British Airways has officially inaugurated a new direct route connecting Rabat to London.

The new connection reinforces Morocco’s growing network of international flights and highlights the Kingdom’s reputation as one of Africa’s most connected travel destinations.

A Strategic Connection Between Two Capitals

The Rabat–London route is part of British Airways’ strategy to expand its presence in North Africa and respond to rising travel demand between the United Kingdom and Morocco.

The inaugural flight landed at Rabat–Salé International Airport during a ceremony attended by representatives of the airline, Moroccan authorities, and the National Office of Moroccan Airports (ONDA).

The service will operate several times per week, offering British visitors easier access to Morocco’s political and cultural capital. Moroccan travelers will also benefit from direct access to London, one of the world’s most important economic and cultural centers.

Rabat: A Capital on the Rise

The choice of Rabat reflects the city’s growing reputation as a hub of culture, heritage, and modern living.

Named among National Geographic’s Best of the World 2026 destinations, the Moroccan capital blends historic landmarks, Atlantic landscapes, and an expanding artistic scene.

Recent investments in infrastructure, including the airport, tramway system, and waterfront redevelopment, continue to transform the city into one of North Africa’s most attractive capitals.

British Airways Expands Its Moroccan Footprint

With this new route, British Airways strengthens its presence in Morocco. The airline already operates flights to major destinations such as Casablanca and Marrakech.

The addition of Rabat supports growing demand from British travelers interested in Moroccan culture, architecture, and coastal escapes.

“We are proud to connect London directly to Rabat,” said a British Airways spokesperson during the launch ceremony. “Morocco remains one of the most inspiring travel destinations in the world.”

Boosting Tourism and Economic Synergy

The Rabat–London connection is expected to increase tourism flows between the United Kingdom and Morocco.

The UK is one of Morocco’s key tourism markets, with nearly one million British visitors recorded in 2025. Improved air connectivity supports both leisure travel and business exchanges.

Industry analysts also note that the route could attract digital nomads and entrepreneurs seeking a dynamic yet affordable base in North Africa.

This expansion aligns with Morocco’s broader ambition to welcome 26 million visitors by 2030, supported by the country’s preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup co-hosted with Spain and Portugal.

Rabat’s Tourism Renaissance

The new route arrives during a period of transformation for the Moroccan capital.

Rabat is emerging as a modern, eco-conscious destination while preserving its royal heritage and historic charm. Visitors can easily explore the medina, the Kasbah of the Oudayas, and contemporary museums in a short stay.
