The vision for this “new economic center of gravity” was shared during the recent Morocco–Spain–Portugal Business Forum in Salé. Organized by the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) alongside Spain’s CEOE and Portugal’s CIP, the forum highlighted how the joint hosting project places Rabat, Madrid, and Lisbon at the heart of a shared investment identity.
From Sporting Event to Economic Platform
Antonio Garamendi, President of CEOE, described the World Cup as a 360-degree strategic project. He emphasized that the event is capable of generating billions of euros and accelerating vital progress in several sectors:
- Infrastructure & Mobility: Modernizing transport links between the three nations.
- Tourism & Innovation: Creating new digital solutions for the global travel market.
- Sustainable Stadiums: Evolving sports venues into year-round, multi-purpose assets.
Garamendi particularly noted Morocco’s rapid progress in sports infrastructure as a model for successful joint investment within the region.
A Shared Vision Between Europe and Africa
From the Portuguese perspective, CIP President Armindo Monteiro hailed World Cup 2030 as a historic bridge between Europe and Africa. He argued that the project turns geographic proximity into tangible economic opportunities by focusing on three key pillars:
| Strategic Pillar | Economic Objective |
|---|---|
| Digital Solutions | Leading the global market in smart stadium and fan engagement tech. |
| Sustainability | Ensuring a carbon-neutral footprint across the triple-continent event. |
| Cross-Border Growth | Boosting competitiveness and SME participation in the global supply chain. |
The forum concluded that cooperation is the only path to building lasting growth that remains competitive well beyond the final whistle in 2030. This partnership marks a shift from seeing the World Cup as a mere tournament to viewing it as a long-term economic platform for three neighboring nations.
