Megarama Maroc has officially inaugurated its first IMAX cinema equipped with laser technology at the Arribat Center mall in Rabat, offering moviegoers in the Moroccan capital a next-generation cinematic experience that combines ultra-high image precision, enhanced contrasts and fully immersive sound.

A new generation of cinema in the heart of Rabat

After several months of renovation work, advanced technical studies and negotiations with IMAX studios, the new IMAX Laser hall stands out with its giant curved screen that fills the viewer’s entire field of vision. The projection delivers exceptional image clarity, richer colours and deeper contrasts, while a carefully designed acoustic environment ensures total immersion.

According to Megarama Maroc, this installation meets the strict international standards required for IMAX certification, positioning Rabat among the few cities in the region to host this premium cinema format.

State-of-the-art sound and image technology

Speaking to the Moroccan News Agency (MAP), Cyril Audineau, CEO of Megarama Maroc, explained that the hall has been entirely restructured to comply with the specific geometric and technical requirements of the IMAX format.

Special attention was given to soundproofing and acoustic treatment, allowing the delivery of powerful three-dimensional sound while minimising vibrations to other areas of the complex. On the visual side, the laser projection system goes beyond conventional 4K standards, offering innovative contrast levels and deeper colour rendering.

Avatar premieres with IMAX Laser in Rabat

The opening of this IMAX Laser hall coincides with the national release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the highly anticipated new chapter in James Cameron’s legendary saga. Screened in IMAX, the film promises Rabat audiences an unparalleled immersion into the world of Pandora, featuring new environments and major advances in visual and sound effects.

This strategic timing reinforces Megarama’s ambition to associate cutting-edge technology with major global cinema releases.

Pricing and cultural impact

Regarding ticket prices, Megarama Maroc announced an additional 50 dirhams compared to standard screenings. This pricing policy has been described as reasonable and in line with international practices for premium IMAX experiences.

With this inauguration, Megarama Maroc strengthens its commitment to making advanced cinematic technologies accessible to a wider audience, while enriching Morocco’s cultural offer and reinforcing the country’s position within the regional premium cinema market.
