According to lesiteinfo.com, a senior official from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has denied reports claiming that Morocco has submitted a bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for the summer of 2028.
Responding to information circulated by several international media outlets, the source told Le Site Info that Morocco has not filed any official application to organise AFCON 2028.
According to the same source, all stakeholders are currently fully focused on ensuring the success of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which Morocco is hosting. “The CAF has not even announced the opening of the bidding process for the organisation of AFCON 2028,” the official stressed.
Focus remains on AFCON 2025
The statement comes amid growing speculation linking Morocco and Egypt to a potential bid for the 2028 tournament. However, the FRMF official was categorical in dismissing these claims, insisting that no formal steps have been taken in that direction.
At present, Morocco’s priority is the delivery of a successful AFCON 2025, an edition that has already generated unprecedented media attention and logistical mobilisation across the Kingdom.
AFCON calendar undergoing historic changes
The next Africa Cup of Nations after Morocco 2025 will take place in the summer of 2027, co-hosted by Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya, from June 19 to July 18.
The following edition is scheduled for the summer of 2028, before the competition returns in 2032, marking a major shift in the tournament’s traditional calendar. Historically organised every two years, AFCON is now moving towards a new rhythm aligned with global football schedules.
Despite persistent rumours in foreign media suggesting interest from Morocco and Egypt, Moroccan football authorities have reiterated that no bid has been submitted and that any future decision will depend on CAF’s official timeline and procedures.
