The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has formally denied rumors suggesting that national team head coach Walid Regragui has resigned from his position. The clarification comes after widespread speculation over the past 48 hours regarding the future of the Moroccan coach.
In a brief statement published on its official communication channels on Friday, the FRMF categorically dismissed the reports, confirming that Walid Regragui remains in charge of the national team and has not submitted any resignation.
“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation categorically denies the information circulated by certain media outlets regarding an alleged resignation of national team head coach Walid Regragui,” the federation said in its official statement, without providing further details.
Focus on World Cup 2026 Preparation
Unless there is a last-minute reversal, Regragui is expected to continue his mission in the coming months as Morocco prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The FRMF’s clarification aims to put an end to speculation following Morocco’s defeat in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Despite the disappointment, the federation appears keen to maintain stability within the technical staff ahead of major international deadlines.
Uncertain Context Despite Official Denial
While the FRMF’s statement reaffirms confidence in Regragui, its timing and tone have drawn comparisons to previous situations in Moroccan football. Observers note similarities with the period that preceded the dismissal of former national team coach Vahid Halilhodzic.
