The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has officially announced its decision to initiate legal proceedings with both the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA following the withdrawal of the Senegal national team during the AFCON 2025 final against Morocco.

FRMF challenges circumstances surrounding Senegal’s withdrawal

In an official statement, the FRMF explained that the move aims to clarify the circumstances that led the Senegalese team to leave the pitch, as well as the events that accompanied this unprecedented decision during the final.

The incident occurred after the referee awarded a penalty in favor of Morocco, a decision that, according to the FRMF, was unanimously considered correct by refereeing specialists.

Impact on the integrity of the match

The Moroccan federation stated that the interruption had a significant impact on the normal flow of the match and directly affected the performance and concentration of the Moroccan players.

According to the FRMF, these events compromised the spirit of fair competition and respect for sporting regulations, prompting the federation to seek clarification and accountability through official legal channels.

Tribute to Moroccan supporters and tournament organizers

Beyond the legal aspect, the FRMF expressed its sincere gratitude to the Moroccan supporters for their unwavering backing of the national team throughout the Africa Cup of Nations.

The federation praised the massive turnout at stadiums and the constant support shown to the Lions of the Atlas during the entire tournament.

The FRMF also thanked all stakeholders involved in the organization of AFCON 2025, highlighting the commitment of organizers and contributors who played a key role in the successful hosting of the continental competition.
