Morocco delivered a convincing and controlled performance to begin its Arab Cup 2025 campaign, defeating the Comoros 3–1 on Matchday 1 of Group B. From the opening whistle, the Atlas Lions imposed their rhythm, pressing high, playing vertically and suffocating their opponents with speed and intensity.
A Lightning Start From the Atlas Lions
It took only five minutes for the scoreboard to come alive. From a perfectly taken corner by Oussama Tannane, Bouftini rose highest to head the ball home and open the scoring (5’, 1–0).
Just six minutes later, the same pattern produced the same result. Tannane delivered another precise ball, this time finding Tissoudali at the penalty spot, who finished with a clean, unstoppable strike (11’, 2–0).
Right before halftime, Morocco widened the gap once again. Hamza El Moussaoui sent in a perfect cross that Karim El Berkaoui converted with a diving header (45’, 3–0).
Comoros React but Morocco Stays in Control
After the break, the Comoros displayed a more aggressive approach and capitalized on a brief Moroccan lapse. Mohamed Boulacsout unfortunately deflected a ball into his own net (56’, 3–1), giving the visitors a temporary boost.
However, the Atlas Lions maintained overall control and never allowed the game to be overturned. Their mastery of set pieces, pressing structure and offensive efficiency remained the defining elements of the match.
A Promising Start for Tarik Sektioui’s Squad
This opening win confirms the ambitions of Tarik Sektioui’s team, already showing strong collective understanding and impressive sharpness on dead-ball situations. Morocco now tops Group B and approaches its next two fixtures against Oman and Saudi Arabia—with confidence as the group stage battle intensifies.
