The era of free stadium access during the Africa Cup of Nations has officially come to an end in Agadir. After initially allowing spectators without valid tickets to enter the Grand Stade d’Agadir to fill empty seats, particularly during Egypt’s early matches, organizers have now put a definitive stop to the practice.

Since the start of AFCON 2025 in Morocco, several stadiums have struggled to reach full capacity, especially during daytime fixtures. To address this issue, local organizers had temporarily allowed access after distributing free tickets, leading to sudden surges in attendance.

From Empty Stands to Full Capacity in Minutes

The most striking example occurred during the match between Egypt and Zimbabwe, when the Adrar Stadium in Agadir went from sparsely populated to completely full within minutes. Similar scenes were observed during the Democratic Republic of Congo’s victory over Benin in Rabat (1–0), as well as Egypt’s second group-stage match against South Africa in Agadir.

These situations quickly fueled rumors on social media suggesting that free entry had become common practice at AFCON 2025 venues.

CAF Denies Free Ticket Policy

In response, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) moved swiftly to deny any official policy regarding free tickets.

“Any information circulating on social media about free tickets is inaccurate and should not be considered official,” a CAF spokesperson stated on Saturday.

Strict Ticket Enforcement Moving Forward

The Local Organizing Committee of the Africa Cup of Nations in Agadir has now confirmed that access to upcoming matches will be strictly limited to ticket holders.

“The Grand Stade d’Agadir operates with a predefined maximum capacity that cannot be exceeded under any circumstances,” the committee said in an official statement. “Entry is strictly reserved for spectators holding valid tickets. Anyone without a ticket will be denied access in order to guarantee public safety and ensure the smooth organization of matches.”

While acknowledging the public’s strong passion for football, organizers urged fans to demonstrate responsibility and discipline.

“Respecting these rules is essential to the success of the tournament,” the statement added.

Morocco’s Image Under International Scrutiny

Beyond immediate logistical concerns, organizers emphasized the importance of preserving Morocco’s image on the international stage. As one of the host nations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, the country is under close observation by global football authorities.

“This event is being closely monitored by international football institutions, particularly FIFA,” the committee noted. “Public behavior and respect for regulations reflect Morocco’s image globally, especially as the country prepares for future major tournaments, including the 2030 World Cup.”

With this clarification, organizers aim to ensure safety, fairness, and professionalism as AFCON 2025 enters its decisive stages.
